Hello everyone. Its been a long journey and we finally got the gold with honors. Thank you very much, my dearest Saxophonists, for putting up with me and attending my sectionals, I really thank all of you for taking the effort to come down and practicing hard under my supervision. You have been a great section. As you can see, our effort has been paid off with the GWH award and I hope that you are happy with it, we are victoriously and honorably, a golden, saxy, naughty, playful, fun-loving, musical, great saxophone section, I love you!

Thank you also to the secondary 2s who took a heavy load of our backs by attending to the needs of the secondary 1s and educating them to be the future of the band. The GWH would never be earned without all your background supporting. I love you!

Thank you to the lower windies who support the entire band by playing very "exciting and interesting" scores which sum up to the support and foundation the entire band rests upon to produce music. I love you all too!!

Just remember to practice hard, follow the scores and make a difference when you're supposed to. With great power comes great responsibility, and the early bird always catches the worm. So, all in all, THANK YOU SO VERY VERY MUCH FOR BEING GREAT MUSICIANS. I LOVE YOU!

hey, zuriel here...

I would want to talk about what we have been doing for the past few weeks on our standard of music. For where i can see it i see that we are all putting in our effort even if we are not showing it much, but its the willingness to actually put in the effort! I also want to talk about our music yesterday on thursday...

Jericho:
We overall did it well and we kept in tempo, we also remembered important parts and did it well. But some parts we were rushing at the end part R and we need to be more conscious of out timing.

Overture No. 1:
This song we always play with a lot of confidence and strength, indeed this is good but when we do this we may tend to rush a little and get out of tempo. USE YOUR EARS AND LISTEN! dont just listen to yourself and hv the attitude that if u are in tempo, tats it. Listen to the rest of the band, perhaps its easier to listen to the person beside to you playing the same part so try and tune to him. But actually this song we do it quite impressively!

I also want to bring up the issue on sectionals... during sectionals when SL or any one of us are conducting, it oes not matter who conducts (cause hes the conductor) so must still show respect and listen to him. We tend to talk a lot when the conductor cuts and when he wants to move on, we are talking away already. SO lets try and improve our discipline, we can joke, but at the right times. If we can do this i really call this good... like tat we are happy and the conductor does not get frustrated, so in the end everybody gains. We are overall on track and improving every parade, so if we continue i am sure we will taste victory!!!

Hi guys,

I'd like to talk about this week's sectionals and our exchange on Saturday, 6th March. Okay. I came late as usual for sectionals, but this week's one was kind of special, because we had combined sectionals with the other sections. I think that this is very important, especially as it is nearing to SYFs already.

Like what Mr Tan had said, we have to be sensitive and be aware of what other sections are playing. Playing with the clarinets and flutes will help us in creating a better wind band, being more sensitive to each others. I think future sectionals should be like such, as it would benefit not only the poeple in our section but also those from the other sections.

There was a slight improvement in the sectionals. And I felt that I personally learnt that I have to be aware of the other sections, especially those that play the same part as us.

NEXT: 6th MARCH BAND EXCHANGE.

The band exchange was okay, I guess. However, some people are quite busy-body to know the other people in the other band such as ~~leonard and keith~~. I think we should concentrate on our performance only as primarily it is our main focus of the day. We shouldn't be looking around the PAC at other people. I felt that that was something we could have improved on.

I would say that our performance was excellent during the exchange. I personally didn't feel very nervous as compared to the Serangoon exchange. I think from the 2 exchanges, we would have learnt something from the other bands and hoped that we apply these things into our playing, such as proper balancing and pitching.

Okay. Besides these two there's also another thing I would like to say.
I think everyone in the section knows about it la. But I'll just say it again. For fun :)

The order of the bands were released, and we are..
FOURTH DAY, FIRST BAND.
I think it is an advantage to us, just like what Mr Tan said, we would have a fresh mind and perform at our best. However the proper balancing is still required and ultimately it is the balanced sound that the judges are looking for. Hopefully we would perform at our best and achieve our main goal! :)

Alright, since its my turn to post on the blog, i shall talk about today's sectional.

Although TA is coming soon, that does not mean we should slack off from music. Note that band is like one of the CCA that is not standing down for TA. Thats means we should practise even more.
Today we had sectionals in the storeroom, it is a new environment for all of us and I can say the sound there seems nicer but yet its not nice. Although we have been making vast improvement, there are still tiny parts here and there that still need to work on. Overall may seem nice, but if these little things are not solved, how can we improve even more?

Our attitude during sectionals is also important. We should have some basic self-discipline during sectionals. I can see that today the conduct is not really good. I do not want to name names but yes, we should really listen to Wallace speaking... He may joke wif us everytime, but thats just his style of teaching us. Everyone has a different way of doing things. Today, people can make unnecessary noise when Wallace is talking/giving advice. Some even playing their own music or rather NOISE.... What is this? Imagine u in Wallace's shoes, do u think u will like it? U speaking to some bunch of blocks that not listening to u?? He may not show he's pissed, but its obvious enuf isnt it?

Why cant we just sit down and practise hard to at least 1 hour str8... when its time to joke we joke, if not there is also time for serious. The reason why our section can be so strong is that we have a proper sectionals. Ever since after Dom's batch, sectionals discipline has been droping alot.... This should not be happening... We are from the Saxophone section, be proud to carry 1... We should always have the basic discipline in us....

So how about a deal saxes? We all listen and focus during sectionals and whens theres a break, thats the time to joke alright? Other then that, we should concentrate and play only when Wallace asked us to... If u really nid to, theres no harm in asking Wallace for permission if u could try out some part... At least he wun get to frustrated....

hello! this is your usl, cherng hao again. i just wanna thank all of you for giving me such a good time being the usl. thank you all for listening to my crap and letting me take/conduct you all for sectionals. i hope that all of you would continue to work hard as i believe you all really want to get a GOLD for this year's SYF.
to the sec2s, i hope that you all would not disappoint me. though you're not in the SYF group now, your chance will still come in 2year's time, when your batch will be the most experienced batch. so i really do hope that both of you would continue to work hard to achieve whatever goal you have set for yourself.
as for the sec3s and sec4s, i hope that you all will keep up the good work :) and also remember not to neglect your studies.

hi saxes! this is your USL, vong cherng hao posting :)
i shall talk about 3things today: wed's sectionals, SCH rehearsal and sat's band rehearsal.

WED'S SECTIONALS
though it was already the second time i'm taking sectionals, i would still say i learnt a lot from it, and it definitely was a fun and enriching experience :) good job saxes! i hope all of you would continue with the good work and not get complacent ok?

to all the sec2s, feel free to approach any of your seniors (including ME) if you don't know how to play any rhythm or don't know the fingering for any notes. no need to feel shy....... xD i know that one day you people will be able to outshine us, if you work hard enough :) because you all have the potential to do so. must buck up ok? sec2 already, no more slacking le. got juniors already leh! xD

OVERTURE: overall not bad. but still must work on running notes - not clear/not together enough. band is all about teamwork. so must listen to one another and make sure all of you follow the conductor's (or whoever is conducting's) tempo ACCURATELY. come in confidently at the second bar of letter A also.. IMPORTANT! doesn't matter if other sections play soft, just play like you always do :)

JERICHO: overall not bad, but not as good as overture. tenor sax should come out more in bar3. at 'victory', please take care of intonation (mainly alto saxes) triplets should be more even at letter J and F, and remember to play them together as a section. sec2s, again, please practise more on your running notes at 'celebration'.

SCH REHEARSAL
as you all know, there will be sound check at SCH this coming sunday, 15th feb. here are the details (applicable only to SYF members):

reporting venue/time: SJI band room, 12.30pm.
attire: concert attire (remember to bring your blazer!)
SCH sound check time slot: 3.30-4.30pm
dismissal place/time: SJI band room, 5.30pm

SAT'S BAND REHEARSAL
remember to take down whatever mr tan says about our section. and talk less during rehearsal :)

one last thing, always bear in mind that PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! (don't come jack me and say 'but no one's perfect, so why practice?' i don't CARE!!.. )

Desperate means call for desperate measures. Ever thought of the agony of seeing the fruits of your labour crumble to bits and you cant do anything to save it? Well i have, this very blog is an example. we were the first section to have a blog, but look what happened? okay this is my fault, or all of our faults, that our dear blog is dead. we shall have to revive it somehow, and as u guys noe, sec fours have o levels this year, and will not be free to update the blog regularly, so its up to the rest of the section to revive what we set out to do, and not let others trample over us. go take a look at the sec 3 batch blog, drums blog and the band blog. they're perfect examples of what our blog should be like...dont let kelvin or jordan "eat" our blog(kidding). Anyway, heres the schedule, and if u dont see it, ill announce next sectionals.

1st Week of month: Zainul
2nd Week " : Cherng Hao
3rd Week " : Samuel
4th Week " : Zuriel

Requirement: Minimum 1 post a week summarising either sectionals or parade or section outing, with one post containing photos per month. Posts should incluse personal reflection, lessons learnt, mistakes made, what went well etc. Tags are most welcome.

We must take ownership for the things that belong to us, such as our instrument, reeds, and our blog is no different. permission is given to delegate the job to sec twos, but most of the job should be done by u guys. Ur SL and I will be checking regularly so be on your guard. Thanks.

what a day...today, i mean yesterday. how else better to celebrate new years eve than with a section outing. we went for the wildest section outing anyone could ever think of, though plans were foiled not one, two, but say 4 times? cos we wanted to watch bedtime stories at plaza sing after lunch, but it was full, so we went cathay, but it was too late the timings, then wanted to play lan, so we decided to walk randomly...and we ended up at swisshotel, one of the tallest buildings in singapore. standing at 72 stories, one would expect this majestic structure to have a commanding view of the singapore central business district skyline, but what we experienced was far from that. instead, we had acheing legs, a shirt soaked in sweat, a stuffy area with a musty stench, and yep, u guessed it. where else but the staircase. its like we climbed 72 floors???(no luh kidding, if we did we would have gone for the vertical marathon instead). we stalked some guy into the lift, then wanted to go to his floor, 53 or 59 i think, then suddenly at 46 it stopped and no one pressed, so we pretended to be guests and walk out, and mel was on the phone with dom, pretending to ask which room it was. then we walked around the freaking corridor twice, but there was no bloody opening, it was all enclosed. disappointed with the result, we spurred each other to climb the remaining stairs to reach the 72nd storey, in hope of being rewarded with the view of the cbd for our efforts, but i guess we wasted it all, because we got owned by the 26 storeys or stairs. and there were staff, pretty suspicious so i had to keep on asking wallace why he forgot to bring his card, and it seemed like we climbed all the way from the 1st storey.(cos u need the card to take lift up to the rooms) then we reached, exhausted as we were, yep asthma as usual for me, then we walked down, and me and cherng hao waited in vain for a passworded lift at the 70th storey, as the closest excessible guest lift was at 59, so we were lagging behind, and before we knew it, we were down, and mel and wallace were like resting on the couches there. what an adventure. then we went bowling, and wallace was on a roll. cherng hao too. cherng hao kept the score sheets. lol. and mel started off shaky and drawed with me but later got warmed up and on form again. me, being the unnatural bowler i am, screwed up half my time(2/4 games literally) there and wasted half my money too lol. anyway wallace nearly got turkey a lot of times, and owned 3/4 games, and cherng hao got turkey once, but at the last 3 turns so sad count as 30 points only. and i had the first 2 spairs of my life in 2008 on the last game when i finally got the hang of it and the 9 bucks before that was well spent learning how to bowl(mel taught me). dom pangsehed us and left...and well, i can say, it was the best section outing in this year mayb(given that only 5 went)(keith, wallace, ch, mel and dom). pics...

oh and by the way, happy new year to all!XD wish u a peaceful and successful year ahead, and wish u guys do well in ur exams and succeed in all ur future endeavours.=D-keith

hey guys, this wednesday, the last day of 2008 has been dedicated to bond as a section, so if u guys have any suggestions or constraints, please do voice it out. anyway, wallace has decided that we go bowling, so any objections please voice out too. and it will be at 11am, meet at marina square tentatively. further changes will be posted here. yep. anyway get ready for school guys, and work hard to do well in 2009, so we can become the smartest section in sjimb. yep. and drummers have a new blog too, but its like so obviously copied, so our blog still stands as the first. anyway, please help keep it alive. yeah. and next parade is 2nd Jan, 7pm in the band room in school uniform. sectionals timings and dates have yet to be confirmed, but most likely will stay on wednesday. and as for the 2 tenor saxes and one baritone sax on repair, wallace please get it out of the repair workshop asap, if not we will have no equipment to practice on, and syf is like 3 months away, so please hurry them, and do not pardon their ineffeciency. yeah. thats all. bye! -keith
